Obtain your credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies.
Go to Anual Credit Report (United States) and obtain your credit reports from the three major credit reporting agencies. You can review these reports for any suspicious activity.
Like the three major credit reporting agencies, these agencies collect and house information regarding payday loans, installment loans, and rent-to-own applications, accounts, and payments. Your specialty credit reports can be obtained by going to the following websites:
- Clarity Services
- CoreLogic Teletrack
- DataX
- FactorTrust
- Microbilt/PRBC
You may wish to place a fraud alert on your credit file
In United States:
You can request a 1-year fraud alert by calling one of the three credit bureaus. The alert expires every year, so if you want to maintain the alert, you will need to call every year to submit a new request. The credit bureau you call will alert the other two credit bureaus to your request, so you should only need to make one call per year. You can also file a 7-year fraud alert by mailing a copy of a police report to the credit bureaus. The fraud alert phone numbers for the credit bureaus are as follows:
TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289
Experian: 1-888-397-3742
Equifax: 1-888-766-0008
